Silent Shout

(2023 - ongoing) : text, sound, performance

Silent Shout is an essay in sound poem format about Silence. Emerging from research into how sound is constructed as a cultural category through the figures of Noise and Silence, the work examines why contemporary theories of sound cannot account for the act of Silencing, even as the Humanities undergoes a “sonic turn”. It approaches Silence both as a function of power and as a mode of resistance, asking who has access to silence and how sound participates in the formation of subjectivity.

Silent Shout was written in PAF, France, where it was first performed in November 2023. It was later performed in Astrid Noack’s atelier as part of the event “Performance Art on Geopolitics and Climate Justice”. It was then recorded in Ambisionics, an immersive sound format, and included in the Spring Exhibition at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in February 2024.
